THE FORD FAMILY MAY BE THE MOST MINISTRY ORIENTED FAMILY IN THE WORLD...
The foundation of More Than Conquerors School of Theology was laid more than 200 years ago.
Dr. J. David Ford established MTC in 1992, but the vision of ministry has been passed down the Ford family from “generation to generation” since the 1700's.
Brother David Ford's father, Rev. O. L. Ford, who lived from 1901-1955, established the Evangelistic Messengers Association in Chicago on March 3, 1933.
O. L.'s father, James Ford 1859 - 1943; filled the pulpit as needed and was always ready at anytime to minister God's Word.
James' father, Rev. John P. Ford 1822 -1880; rode many a mile as a circuit riding preacher.
John's father, Rev. William Webber Ford 1796 -1851; was a minister of God's Word.
William's father, Timothy Ford 1773 - 1839; was a teacher.
Timothy’s father, Rev. Reuben Ford 1742 - 1823; founded five churches in the Richmond, Virginia area. All five of these churches are still having services today.
Rev. Reuben Ford and Rev. William Webber 1747-1809; were both Dr. Ford’s great-great-great-great-grandfathers.
These two ministers... probably more than anyone else, were greatly used of God. According to historical markers in Virginia, both Reuben and William were instrumental in helping to secure the First Amendment of separation of Church and state into our Bill of Rights. Both of these brethern worked with George Washington to insure this.
George Washington wrote them stating he would never have signed the constitution if he had thought that religious freedom was not insured for all the people who lived in the colonies.
God also used Reuben and William to found the first ministerial fellowship in Virginia in the 1700’s, that still is going until this day. Then later my father O.L. Ford founded the ministry as we know it today... the Evangelistic Messengers Association.
Incidentally, Reuben Ford was saved under the minister of George Whitefield. He also personally experienced the Great Awakening that swept through the colonies as well as his church.
Dr. Ford and students at MTC share in a great family heritage of ministers whom God used to help shape America.
